experience includes 10 years as a management consultant with both Ernst &
Young, where he was an Executive Consultant, and
Ingersoll Engineers. During 15 years working in manufacturing industry he has held posts
with companies which include Thorn EMI, BICC and GEC. Alv’s strengths are
his ability to craft winning strategic solutions for complex manufacturing
and supply chain problems, his experience of
implementing team based and lean manufacturing solutions,
and his skills in establishing and leading high performance teams. Alv has
worked with a wide spectrum of manufacturing businesses, many of whom are
recognised industry leaders. In addition to his UK experience Alv has
worked extensively across much of Western Europe, the US, and the Far East.
His consulting clients include Johnson & Johnson, Rolls Royce, Black &

experienced manufacturing engineer and consultant, with a career which spans
nearly 40 years, and many industry sectors. During his 25 years as a
consultant he has helped an impressive array of businesses improve their
manufacturing facilities and performance. His approach is pragmatic,
thorough, and well respected by his clients. His specialisms include
factory relocation, factory layout, pull production system design and
implementation, production team training in lean manufacturing techniques,
and interim manufacturing management. His recent clients have included
manufacturers of steel forgings, moulded house-wares, fasteners, DIY
products, and snack foods. Before moving into consultancy he worked in
the aerospace, automotive and engineered products industries, with companies
which include Lucas and Rolls Royce. He holds an honours degree in
mechanical engineering from Loughborough University

sectors. Particularly astute at identifying the precise nature and cause of
cross-process problems, and designing and
implementing new robust processes that deliver real measurable improvements. He has successfully applied these principles to a wide range of
processes, from sales order entry, planning and purchasing, through design,
stock control and production to warehousing and distribution.
In addition to working for a number of major
blue-chip companies,such as
Motorola, Kenwood, and BTR, he has considerable experience with SME
businesses in the aerospace, engineering,
printing, stationary, food, chemicals, and textiles
sectors. Prior to becoming a consultant he
worked as an industrial engineer and production manager for Courtaulds
Textiles, which included a 2 year assignment in the US. He
holds a degree in Industrial Design from
Northumberland University, as well as a masters in Ergonomics from
Birmingham University
